Softcity

Footmap is an interdisciplinary invention by Softcity, which was created as part of an entry for the British Cement Association Award. It is a low-cost, low maintenance, concrete paving slab for largescale use in pedestrian areas. Footmap is made of a smart material of extreme simplicity, with a composite construction engineered to provide a visual and tactile record of pedestrian traffic. A corrugated lower layer of extremely hard concrete is progressively exposed, through the wearing down of an infilling upper layer resulting in lower layer being more visible in heavily used areas.
